Eric Mabius, known for his roles in Hallmark’s Signed, Sealed,
Delivered and ABC’s Ugly Betty, was arrested early Thursday morning in Yulee, Florida, on charges of simple battery and resisting arrest without violence.
According to arrest records obtained by Fox News Digital, the 52-year-old actor was taken into custody following an altercation at a local bar.
Mabius, who appeared to have a visible black eye in his mugshot, allegedly “knocked” two women to the ground during a dispute that took place around 2 a.m.
The incident reportedly involved an intoxicated woman who was disturbing patrons at the establishment.
The arresting officer from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department noted in a statement
that Mabius intervened and forcefully brought both the intoxicated woman and another female patron to the ground.
“The victim said this only took a few seconds, but while she was on the ground, Eric got on top of her and was pulling her hair, ripping a handful of her hair from her scalp,” the officer’s report stated. “At this point, multiple people at the bar intervened and separated the parties involved.”
Authorities confirmed that the intoxicated woman was also arrested following the incident. Meanwhile, Mabius allegedly became increasingly uncooperative after being escorted outside by law enforcement officers.
“Mabius became more belligerent once outside, refusing simple commands to sit on the bench,” the arresting officer noted. “At one point, he attempted to stand up and walk behind me while I was trying to complete the investigation. Several deputies had to restrain him and ultimately placed him under arrest for resisting without violence.”
A witness at the scene, who claimed he had been spit on by the intoxicated woman, recounted the chaotic moments leading up to Mabius’ arrest. The witness told authorities, “Eric slung both girls to the ground, so I grabbed him off them as police arrived.” Although the witness chose not to press charges for being spit on, one of the women who was allegedly thrown to the ground did press charges against both Mabius and the intoxicated woman.
As a result, both individuals were arrested on charges of simple battery. Mabius’ additional charge of resisting arrest without violence stemmed from his behavior while in police custody.
Following the arrest, Mabius was booked at the Nassau County Detention Facility, where he remained until posting bond. As of now, neither the actor nor his representatives have issued a public statement regarding the incident. Fox News Digital confirmed that Hallmark has also not responded to requests for comment.
Eric Mabius gained widespread recognition for his role as Daniel Meade, the charming yet initially shallow editor-in-chief on Ugly Betty, which ran from 2006 to 2010. He later became a fan favorite on Hallmark Channel, starring in the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series, in which he played Oliver O’Toole, a postal worker with a passion for reconnecting lost mail with its intended recipients.
While Mabius has maintained a relatively low-profile public image, his recent arrest has raised concerns among fans and industry insiders. Social media reactions have been mixed, with some supporters expressing shock and hoping for clarity on the situation, while others have been critical of his alleged actions.
Legal experts suggest that Mabius could face fines, probation, or even jail time if convicted of the misdemeanor charges. His next court appearance has yet to be announced, but given the high-profile nature of his career, it remains to be seen how this legal issue will impact his professional endeavors.
As the case unfolds, further details may emerge regarding the circumstances leading to the altercation. For now, fans of the actor and the Hallmark network await an official statement from Mabius or his legal team addressing the incident.
