Stacey Solomon found herself deeply moved while filming an episode of Sort Your Life Out, where she assisted a Leeds family in organizing their cluttered home.
The TV presenter became emotional as she helped Ben and Lynda Brearly-Baird, along with their five-year-old daughter Charlotte,
tackle their overwhelming possessions, including a garage filled from floor to ceiling.
During the decluttering process, the family sorted through a staggering number of items, including 53 toolboxes, 239 scarves, and 619 pieces of wood.
However, the most poignant moment came when Lynda, who has been diagnosed with incurable breast cancer,
shared her motivation for clearing out their home—to leave behind meaningful memories for her daughter.
Lynda showed Stacey a special memory box she was preparing for Charlotte, explaining her heartfelt reason for doing so. “I’ve actually started one myself because, unfortunately, at some point, I won’t be here anymore,” she revealed. She had been gradually adding to the box, ensuring her daughter would have keepsakes and messages to remember her by.
In addition to the memory box, Lynda had also been writing a notebook filled with thoughts and messages intended for Charlotte’s future milestones. “I’ve got a notebook where I jot down random thoughts—things I’d say to her as a teenager or when she’s older. My aim is to leave something for her wedding day or if she ever has children. If I were there, this is what I’d want her to know,” she explained.
The heartbreaking moment deeply affected Stacey, who tried to offer comfort. Fighting back tears, Lynda expressed her greatest fear: “When I was first diagnosed, Charlotte was still very young. I worried she wouldn’t remember me. I want her to remember me.” Stacey responded with empathy, saying, “There’s something so beautiful and positive about what you’re doing here.”
Following this deeply emotional exchange, Stacey was visibly shaken as she reflected on the conversation. “I’ve never gone through a section of decluttering where someone is fully aware that they’ll be missing out on creating future memories,” she admitted. “I don’t want to get upset because this isn’t about me. This is their reality, and I’m here to help.” Despite her best efforts to remain composed, the weight of the moment overwhelmed her, and she buried her face in her hands.
Struggling to regain her composure, Stacey apologized, saying, “I’m so sorry, it’s not about me. I just can’t help but think—Charlotte is the same age as my little boy, and it’s just heartbreaking.” She then stepped away from the camera, taking a moment to gather herself before continuing to support the family.
The emotional episode resonated deeply with viewers, many of whom took to social media to express their feelings. One viewer wrote on Twitter (now X), “Oh Stacey, I was holding it together until you broke down. What a beautiful gift to give this family in such a difficult situation.” Another viewer commented, “@StaceySolomon Just cried along with you. What a lovely family, and Charlotte is such a sweet little girl. Life can be so cruel. Time is a gift. #SortYourLifeOut.”
Others shared their own personal experiences, with one person writing, “Now this is hard—making a memory box. Life can be so unfair. #SortYourLifeOut.” Another user praised Stacey’s heartfelt reaction, saying, “Oh, Stacey got so emotional. She’s so empathetic. This family’s story is heartbreaking, and Charlotte is such a little star. #SortYourLifeOut.”
Many viewers related personally to the episode’s theme, with one commenter reflecting, “This episode has me in bits. My mum was diagnosed when I was 38, and thankfully she’s fine now, but the notebook idea for her little girl has absolutely broken me. #SortYourLifeOut.” Another added, “Creating a memory box for her daughter in case she doesn’t get to see her grow up—such a powerful and emotional moment. #SortYourLifeOut.”
This touching episode of Sort Your Life Out not only showcased the importance of decluttering but also highlighted the emotional weight that certain possessions carry. Lynda’s act of love in preparing memories for Charlotte left a lasting impression on both Stacey and viewers alike, making it one of the most heartfelt moments in the show’s history.
