Sir Rod Stewart was criticized as “unprofessional” after a colleague detected alcohol on his breath during a live broadcast: “Did you sneak out for a drink?”

Sir Rod Stewart, the legendary singer-songwriter, entertained football fans with two amusing interviews ahead of Celtic’s crucial Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich.

At 80 years old, Stewart made an unexpected appearance on both TNT Sports and CBS Sports before the first leg of his beloved team’s knockout play-off match at Celtic Park.

His lively presence left both pundits and viewers in stitches, as he openly admitted to having enjoyed a few drinks before going on air.

Speaking to CBS Sports, Stewart joined a panel featuring football greats Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, Thierry Henry, and host Kate Scott.

From the moment he spoke, it was clear that his signature charm and humor were in full force.

One of the standout moments came when he repeatedly told the stadium announcer to “shut up,” earning laughs from those in the studio.

Further adding to the hilarity, Stewart mistakenly referred to legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel as ‘Gordon Banks’ before affectionately calling Micah Richards ‘big knees’ instead of his well-known nickname, ‘Big Meeks.’

Just 90 seconds into the interview, Stewart turned to Schmeichel and asked how he was doing before casually confessing, “I’ve had a couple.” The admission prompted bursts of laughter from the CBS panel, who were thoroughly entertained by his antics. As the conversation continued, the singer jokingly added, “You better get me off the air now. I’m embarrassing myself.”

Later, Stewart brought his boundless energy to TNT Sports, where he spoke with presenter Emma Dodds. When asked if he was enjoying the day so far, he enthusiastically responded, “It’s been wonderful. I’ve had a couple of drinks, as you can probably see. Wahey!”

The ‘Maggie May’ hitmaker then expressed his deep love for Celtic, saying, “Celtic is the love of my life apart from my wife and children. As long as we stay in the competition, as long as we don’t get humped tonight.” His lighthearted yet passionate remarks resonated with fans, further proving his unwavering support for the Scottish club.

In yet another memorable moment, Stewart embraced the lively atmosphere by dancing live on air to a chant sung by Celtic fans. The impromptu performance quickly went viral, with viewers sharing their reactions across social media. One user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “I’m not Rod’s biggest fan for obvious reasons, but he was pretty funny there.” Another simply wrote, “Top man, Rod,” while a third described the moment as “Magnificent.”

This isn’t the first time Stewart has entertained football audiences with his humorous approach. Back in 2017, he made headlines while helping conduct the Scottish League Cup draw. Paired with former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs, Stewart brought an unexpected dose of theatrics to the event. As he picked teams from the draw, he exaggerated his movements, dramatically pulling out each number while playfully shouting them to the crowd.

Reflecting on that moment in an interview with FourFourTwo in 2022, Stewart admitted, “I’d had a couple of bevvies, and Sky asked me if I’d like to do [the draw]. I said, ‘Listen, I’ve had a couple of drinks,’ and they said it was fine.”

True to his personality, he improvised throughout the segment, turning what is typically a routine draw into one of the most memorable in Scottish football history. “I’m an ad-lib guy, and, lo and behold, I just p***** about a bit,” Stewart recalled with a chuckle. “It went around the world and became one of the most high-profile Scottish Cup draws that’s ever been done—and probably ever will be.”

Following his lively interviews, Stewart was later seen among the Celtic supporters, watching his team face Bayern Munich. His infectious enthusiasm, playful demeanor, and undeniable passion for football once again solidified his status as one of the sport’s most beloved celebrity fans.

While Celtic fans were thrilled to see Stewart cheering on their team, his unforgettable interviews proved to be just as entertaining as the match itself. Whether through humor, song, or dance, the rock legend never fails to make an impression—both on and off the stage.
