A former colleague of Meghan Markle has made serious allegations about the Duchess of Sussex’s behavior toward her staff,
claiming that she would turn cold and withholding when things didn’t go according to plan.
In a recent exposé for *Vanity Fair*, the unnamed source,
who worked with Markle on media projects, described the experience as “really, really, really awful” and “very painful.”
The former staffer went on to reveal how Meghan would behave like a strategist, constantly aware of where people stood in her personal and professional circles.
The insider alleged that Meghan would keep people on her “board” and, if they fell out of favor, could “be thrown to the wolves” at a moment’s notice.
According to the former colleague, this harsh treatment often followed a falling out or when her or her husband Prince Harry’s expectations were not met.
One example cited was during the lead-up to the launch of Meghan Markle’s now-defunct podcast, *Archetypes*, when a teaser was released in March 2022, five months before the show premiered. The teaser lacked clips to promote the show, which eventually led to the Spotify deal being dissolved in June 2023. According to the ex-staff member, the response from Markle to the mishandling of the podcast was harsh, and those involved in the project were made to feel undermined and inadequate.
The source also compared the experience of working with Meghan to the dynamics seen in “Mean Girls,” describing how Markle’s alleged behavior could feel manipulative and undermining. The insider explained, “It’s talking behind your back. It’s gnawing at your sense of self,” a sentiment that evoked feelings of high school-style drama and clique behavior, suggesting that Meghan’s actions made her employees feel belittled and insecure.
Despite these claims, producer Jane Marie, who collaborated with the Sussexes on audio projects for Archewell, countered these allegations, describing Meghan Markle as a “lovely, genuine person.” Markle’s representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment on the accusations detailed in *Vanity Fair*.
This is not the first time that former staff members have spoken out about Markle’s behavior. In a separate exposé published in September, Meghan was described as a “dictator in high heels” who allegedly reduced “grown men to tears.” A source from the report claimed that she was quick to belittle people and would not take advice, with another source describing her as a “classic narcissist.” They also criticized Prince Harry, suggesting that while he was charming, he played the role of an enabler, allowing Meghan to act with impunity.
The accusations against Meghan Markle echo previous reports of strained relationships with palace staff during her time as a working royal. She and Harry’s departure from the royal family in 2020, which sparked significant media attention, has only heightened scrutiny of their personalities and their treatment of those around them. Some former staff have continued to voice mixed opinions, with one source claiming, “If you were working for her, you were often treated like a tradesman who could be treated like s–t.”
However, a third individual noted that the controversial exit from the royal family may have influenced public perceptions of Meghan and Harry. This source suggested that the couple’s decision to leave the monarchy and the intense media backlash could have played a role in how their behavior is now viewed by those who work for them.
Amid these ongoing allegations and contrasting testimonies, Meghan Markle’s reputation among former colleagues remains divided. While some praise her as genuine and warm, others claim she can be cold, demanding, and manipulative when faced with challenges. Whether these contrasting views are rooted in the complexity of working with a high-profile figure or represent a deeper issue of leadership style is yet to be fully understood. However, as new reports continue to surface, the public’s perception of Meghan Markle and her approach to professional relationships remains a topic of significant interest and debate.
