Karl Stefanovic addressed speculation about a possible new position at Channel Nine, and his answer has delighted his fans!

Peter V’landys, the influential NRL supremo, has recently revealed his desire to see *Today Show* star Karl Stefanovic host a dedicated rugby league TV show on Channel 9.

V’landys, who is currently in Las Vegas for the NRL season launch, spoke highly of Stefanovic’s popularity,

noting that the TV personality has become a fan favorite in the sporting world.

“It’s so evident in Vegas how popular Karl is with the fans,” V’landys shared with News Corp.

“They love him. I think he’s the perfect person to be an ambassador for rugby league on Channel 9.”

With Channel 9 being a major broadcast partner of the NRL, V’landys sees the potential for a great partnership, aiming to boost the sport’s visibility.

He went on to explain, “I’m going to talk to them about it. They want to do a lot more to promote the game, and Karl knows his rugby league. The more footy programming we can get is only going to help grow the game.”

Stefanovic’s involvement with the NRL goes beyond simply being a fan. His deep connection to rugby league and his status as a high-profile media personality make him a natural fit for the proposed TV show. As one of the leading faces on Channel 9, Stefanovic has enjoyed a long career in broadcasting and has cultivated a strong relationship with the network. V’landys is confident that Stefanovic’s charismatic presence on a rugby league-focused show could contribute significantly to the sport’s continued growth, particularly in mainstream media.

This development follows Stefanovic’s ongoing role as a co-host on *Today*, where he has been a fixture for two decades. Despite his longstanding presence in breakfast television, V’landys sees an opportunity to expand Stefanovic’s influence within the realm of rugby league. His suggestion reflects both the growing popularity of the sport and the desire for fresh, engaging content that appeals to a wide audience.

The idea of Stefanovic hosting a rugby league TV show on Channel 9 is an intriguing prospect, particularly as it could complement the network’s ongoing sports coverage. While no official announcements have been made, V’landys’ intentions suggest a serious push to further integrate Stefanovic into the NRL’s broadcast initiatives. The suggestion has already sparked discussions among fans and industry insiders, with many excited by the idea of a high-profile personality like Stefanovic leading such a project.

This news also comes at a time of ongoing changes within Channel 9’s breakfast programming. Stefanovic recently addressed rumors surrounding potential changes to the *Today* co-host lineup. Specifically, there were speculations about former *Sunrise* star Samantha Armytage replacing Sarah Abo, who currently co-hosts alongside Stefanovic. However, Stefanovic put the rumors to rest in an interview with *Stellar* magazine, emphatically stating that he had no interest in working with anyone else on the show. “I don’t see Sarah ever being replaced,” Stefanovic explained. “And I genuinely have no interest in working with anyone else.”

Stefanovic’s statement emphasized his long-term commitment to *Today* and his desire for stability in the show’s hosting lineup. Having spent two decades with the network, Stefanovic has witnessed numerous changes in co-hosts, including the departures of Tracy Grimshaw, Jessica Rowe, and Lisa Wilkinson. However, Stefanovic remains steadfast in his dedication to the show, stating that he is “closer to the end than the start” and unlikely to go through another round of co-host changes.

Meanwhile, the drama surrounding the possible rebranding of *Today* has kept Channel 9 in the headlines. The network faced significant internal tension last December when Armytage was brought in for a fill-in co-hosting role alongside weatherman Dan Astley. The decision to temporarily replace Sarah Abo with Armytage sparked controversy among *Today* staff, with some expressing dissatisfaction over the choice.

Despite the internal turmoil, Stefanovic has consistently remained a steady figure within the *Today* show. His comments regarding the potential switch to a rugby league-focused show suggest that his future may involve further expanding his role within Channel 9’s sports coverage. It also indicates a broader strategy by the network to strengthen its association with the NRL, particularly in the lead-up to the new season.

Stefanovic’s growing presence within rugby league media could mark a significant shift in how the sport is promoted, not just through traditional coverage, but by engaging personalities with deep ties to mainstream television. Should V’landys’ vision come to fruition, the collaboration between Stefanovic and Channel 9 could help elevate rugby league to even greater heights in Australian media.
