Richard Hammond, 55, is set to open up about his mental health journey following the breakdown of his 28-year marriage to Mindy, 59.
Last week, the former *Top Gear* presenter confirmed his separation from his wife, with reports suggesting
that Mindy is seeking to retain the couple’s prestigious Herefordshire estate, Bollitree Castle, amid their divorce proceedings.
As Richard navigates this challenging period in his life,
he is ready to delve into the topic of mental wellbeing in his new podcast series, *Who We Are Now*.
The series will feature candid conversations with well-known figures such as Professor Green, David Harewood, and Leigh Francis, along with contributions from Richard’s daughter, Izzy, 23.
The upcoming episodes, which will be released next week, will focus on various aspects of self-growth and mental health, as well as addressing important social stigmas.
Throughout the series, Richard and Izzy will discuss topics like midlife crises, the modern conception of masculinity, the menopause, and how to live a healthier life. The conversations are expected to offer an honest and personal look at Richard’s life and his journey toward better mental health, particularly as he faces the challenges of his recent split.
Before the breakup was made public, Richard’s daughter Izzy had already shared her thoughts on her father’s daredevil persona in an interview with Ben Fowler. When asked if her dad should be labeled a “daredevil” or an “idiot,” Izzy humorously responded, “We’ve done handbrake turns around roundabouts, sorry I know that’s incredibly illegal you might have to cut that out. He’s an idiot.” She went on to explain that Richard’s fearless nature—characteristic of many racing drivers—meant that he didn’t have the usual hesitation that most people experience. “Everyone has that line where it’s like ‘okay I know where the line is,’” she said. “He just doesn’t have that.”
Izzy also reflected on her childhood, revealing that although her dad was often away filming, some of her happiest memories were ironically with him. “I always think it must be frustrating for my mum because probably some of my happiest memories are ironically with my dad because he wasn’t there that much because he was filming,” she said. “He wasn’t there a lot and that’s all I really knew growing up.”
The dissolution of Richard and Mindy’s marriage is believed to have been a long and difficult process. Sources close to the couple have stated that they fought to save their relationship for several months. Before the split was finalized, Richard was reportedly staying in a converted barn on their Bollitree Castle estate in Herefordshire. There are also reports suggesting that Mindy may have initiated divorce proceedings.
As of now, Richard is said to be living in rented accommodation located just a short commute away from the family home. The presenter, who is known for his adventurous spirit, reportedly fought to salvage his marriage for nearly 18 months before ultimately accepting that it was over.
Following the announcement of their split, Richard and Mindy released a joint statement to their fans. It read: “A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently. Our marriage is coming to end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters. We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created. We won’t be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy.”
The split marks a significant chapter in Richard’s life, and with his new podcast series, he is set to reflect on his personal experiences and challenges, including his journey through the end of his long-term marriage. As he continues to navigate this difficult period, the series promises to provide a deeper insight into his mental health, self-growth, and the ongoing process of healing. Richard’s openness about his mental wellbeing is sure to resonate with listeners and offer valuable perspectives on the complexities of personal growth and relationships.
