Gino D’Acampo sent shockwaves through the industry by fiercely warning ITV execs that they’ll regret cutting him from their lineup: “You have no idea what’s coming…”

ITV is under increasing scrutiny after allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior spanning over a decade against TV presenter Gino D’Acampo.

The claims, which have surfaced from multiple sources, describe incidents of sexualized

and aggressive language while filming shows like Gino’s Italian Express, Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip, and Emission Impossible.

Women’s groups and advocacy organizations have sharply criticized D’Acampo, demanding accountability for his alleged actions.

The allegations were highlighted in an investigation by ITV News, which uncovered dozens of complaints from people who have worked with D’Acampo over the years.

Accusers have characterized his behavior as “unacceptable” and “distressing,” leading many to question why ITV has not acted more swiftly in addressing the matter.

The broadcaster, however, has made some changes, including removing D’Acampo from upcoming television schedules for the next ten days.

Despite these actions, ITV has come under fire for continuing to feature D’Acampo’s shows on its streaming platform, ITVX. The decision to leave the shows available for on-demand viewing has sparked outrage, with critics arguing that it sends the wrong message. Dr. Charlotte Proudman, founder of Right to Equality, expressed her concern, stating, “It is particularly concerning that ITV continues to platform D’Acampo’s shows on ITVX – including those where complaints were reportedly made.” Proudman further added that the ongoing availability of these shows was detrimental to victims of sexual misconduct, suggesting that commercial interests were being prioritized over accountability.

The allegations against D’Acampo have struck a chord with numerous women’s rights advocates. Jemima Olchawski, CEO of the Fawcett Society, called the claims “shocking” and emphasized that such behavior should have no place in modern society. She stressed the importance of employers fostering a workplace culture that prevents toxic conduct, urging that all workplaces, particularly those in the entertainment industry, take these concerns seriously.

Victims of D’Acampo’s alleged actions have accused both ITV and the production companies behind his shows of “furiously protecting” the chef. Many believe that ITV has been reluctant to take action out of fear that cutting ties with D’Acampo could result in significant financial losses. As a popular figure with a long-running career, D’Acampo has been a considerable asset to the network, and some fear that the controversy could affect future investments and partnerships.

D’Acampo, for his part, has firmly denied all allegations of misconduct, calling the accusations “simply not in my nature” and expressing how “deeply upsetting” they are to him. In a statement, he rejected the claims and asserted that the incidents described did not align with his character or actions. However, the accusations have persisted, and ITV has acknowledged that the complaints raised by those who spoke to ITV News describe behavior that is “inappropriate and unacceptable.” Despite this, ITV has revealed that many of the complaints were not made at the time of the alleged incidents, complicating the matter further. When issues were reported directly to ITV, the company says it took action, although the exact details of the responses remain unclear.

This scandal has shone a light on broader concerns about how such allegations are handled within the television industry, particularly in relation to high-profile personalities. Many are calling for a more transparent and proactive approach to addressing accusations of misconduct, especially when they involve well-known figures. Critics argue that swift and firm action is needed, not just to protect those who may be vulnerable but also to preserve the integrity of the industry as a whole.

As the situation unfolds, ITV is under significant pressure to act decisively and demonstrate its commitment to accountability. The controversy surrounding Gino D’Acampo serves as a reminder of the importance of taking allegations of sexual misconduct seriously, regardless of the stature of the individual involved. While D’Acampo’s denial of the accusations adds complexity to the case, the continued demand for answers and action from ITV reflects a growing demand for accountability in the entertainment industry. Whether ITV will take further steps to sever ties with D’Acampo remains to be seen, but the pressure from victims’ advocates and the public is mounting.
