GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes, 65, recently made a bold statement during a discussion on his morning show,
expressing his belief that lying to a partner in a relationship is sometimes acceptable.
The revelation came as Holmes and his co-hosts debated the topic, sparked by findings
that a significant number of people embellish details about themselves on dating apps.
During Monday’s episode, Eamonn cited statistics indicating
that one-third of individuals using dating platforms admitted to lying to enhance their appeal to both potential and existing partners.
While a dating coach participating in the discussion argued that dishonesty damages trust in a relationship, Eamonn took a different stance, appearing to draw from his own personal experiences.
“If someone asks, ‘Does my bum look big in this?’ and you say, ‘No, of course it doesn’t,’ does that make you a bad person?” he questioned his co-host, Jo. Holmes continued by stating that most people lead relatively mundane lives and might feel the need to embellish details to appear more interesting. “Let’s face it, we’re all quite boring,” he remarked. “If someone asks you to talk about your life, they expect to hear something extraordinary. But in reality, most of us just do everyday things. So yes, I imagine I embellish—I’m an embellisher.”
Holmes also acknowledged that people may exaggerate their lifestyles on dating apps to increase their attractiveness. “If you’re trying to catch the attention of the most appealing person on a dating app, you’re not going to say, ‘I just sat on the couch, watched TV, and ate pizza,’ are you?” he quipped.
Ruth Langsford Embraces Single Life Following Split
Holmes’ comments on relationships and honesty come in the wake of his recent split from ex-wife Ruth Langsford. Over the weekend, Ruth appeared to be enjoying life post-breakup, spending a glamorous evening out with friends. The television personality and former This Morning co-host stepped out with close friend Lizzie Cundy for a girls’ night out, sharing moments from the evening on Instagram.
Ruth and Lizzie dined at the upscale London restaurant Scott’s Mayfair, accompanied by their friend and hospitality consultant Liz Taylor. Ruth, 64, showcased a stylish look, donning a black blazer over a matching top, complemented by black slim jeans, snakeskin boots, and a chic clutch. Raising a glass of white wine alongside Lizzie, she shared a celebratory message on social media: “Girls night! Party like it’s your birthday. Laughter is the best medicine.”
The outing follows Ruth’s candid discussion about navigating the emotional challenges of her separation from Holmes after 14 years of marriage. In an interview with woman&home, she reflected on the breakup, stating that while the experience was difficult, she is focused on moving forward. “I’m alright. Relationship breakdowns are tough, whether it’s a marriage or a friendship. But you have to deal with it and move on. You can let yourself crumble, or you can pick yourself up and get on with life—it’s a choice,” she said.
Ruth, who shares a 22-year-old son, Jack, with Eamonn, further explained that she has accepted her new reality. “I’m not thrilled that my marriage is over, but I’ve come to terms with it. Now, I’m embracing being single and making choices that are just about me.”
The former couple, who were a familiar duo on This Morning for years, have had to face their breakup in the public eye, which Ruth acknowledged adds another layer of difficulty. “A divorce is painful for anyone, but most people don’t have to go through it with the world watching and passing judgment. But that’s the nature of my job. If you can’t handle that, then you shouldn’t be in this industry.”
Meanwhile, Holmes has moved on publicly with his new partner, dating counselor Katie Alexander, 43. While Ruth remains single, she has made it clear that she is open to whatever the future holds.
As both Eamonn and Ruth navigate their lives post-divorce, their perspectives on relationships continue to capture public attention—whether it’s Holmes’ belief in the acceptability of white lies or Ruth’s determination to embrace new beginnings.
