Denise Welch has never been shy about expressing her love for her husband,
Lincoln Townley. The couple, who have been happily married since 2013, continue to prove that their bond is stronger than ever.
However, in a cheeky revelation, the Loose Women star admitted that Lincoln’s questionable dance skills nearly ended their relationship before it even began.
While their 14-year age gap raised eyebrows when they first tied the knot, the couple has only grown closer over the years.
Their shared sense of humor and ability to find joy in life has been a crucial factor in their enduring marriage.
Now, after more than a decade together, they are the ones having the last laugh.
A Marriage Built on Laughter
Denise and Lincoln have always been open about their relationship, often sharing glimpses of their playful dynamic with the public. Most recently, they took part in Celebrity Hunted, a reality show that challenged them to evade capture while being pursued by expert trackers. The pair, known for their lighthearted approach to life, didn’t hesitate to sign up for the high-stakes adventure.
Speaking about their relationship, Denise explained that humor plays a significant role in their marriage. “We do have a good laugh,” she shared. “The thing with us is that we take our business very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves seriously.”
She went on to emphasize how their ability to find humor in everyday situations keeps their connection strong. “I always thought there wouldn’t be one person that I fancy and be able to laugh with like I laugh with my girlfriends or my gay best friends. But I managed to find that in Lincoln.”
According to Denise, their unspoken understanding allows them to communicate without words. “It’s that thing where something can happen and we can be at opposite ends of the room, but just one look and you are both laughing because you know what the other one is thinking.”
Lincoln’s Dancing Nearly Stopped Their Love Story
Despite their deep bond, Denise jokingly admitted that Lincoln’s lack of rhythm on the dance floor could have been a deal-breaker early in their relationship. “Oh my God, Lincoln is the worst dancer!” she laughed. “He is not a natural mover. If I’d danced with him before I had sex with him, it wouldn’t have got that far!”
While Lincoln may not have the best moves, he certainly doesn’t let that stop him from having a good time. Denise appreciates his enthusiasm, saying, “He just doesn’t have the moves, but he loves to dance, so I encourage him to dance in a nice way.”
Lincoln, however, was quick to defend himself, reminding Denise that they once competed on Stepping Out, ITV’s celebrity dance competition in 2013. “Remember we have done a dancing show together, so it reflects in my life as I travel forward!” he joked.
Taking on Celebrity Hunted as a Team
The couple’s most recent adventure together saw them taking part in Celebrity Hunted, where they had to survive on the run with only £200 and no access to bank cards. Their mission was made even tougher by expert trackers, including ex-police officers and intelligence specialists, who were determined to hunt them down.
Despite the stress of constantly being on the move, Denise and Lincoln never lost their sense of humor. Lincoln, in particular, went to great lengths to keep spirits high, even strutting across a beach in a swimsuit and performing an impromptu dance in a shower at a luxury hotel.
Denise acknowledged that her competitive streak came out early in the challenge, admitting, “The competitiveness did come on pretty strong from Den pretty quickly!” Lincoln was equally impressed by her determination, saying, “Den was amazing. I mean, she was literally charging ahead, and every morning it was like, ‘Right. Let’s go!’ We knew we had to deliver, and she really did.”
Restoring Faith in Humanity
While Celebrity Hunted is known for testing participants’ survival skills and mental endurance, Denise walked away from the experience with a newfound appreciation for human kindness. The couple relied heavily on strangers for help, and the generosity they encountered left a lasting impact.
Denise shared, “This show really did restore my faith in humanity.” She admitted that, like many people, she often feels overwhelmed by negative news stories, which can paint a bleak picture of the world. However, their experience on the run reminded her that most people are inherently good.
“If I look at Twitter sometimes, I think, oh my God, this person doesn’t like me and that person doesn’t like me. But every single person had only lovely things to say. So it really did restore my faith in the public.”
A Relationship That Stands the Test of Time
Through all their adventures—whether it’s competing on reality shows, laughing at each other’s quirks, or navigating the ups and downs of life—Denise and Lincoln have proven that their relationship is built on a foundation of love, laughter, and mutual respect.
Denise summed it up best when she said, “I think laughter is very much a part of the success of our marriage, and the very fact that I didn’t want to do Celebrity Hunted with anybody but my husband says it all.”
Their journey together continues to inspire, proving that sometimes, a shared sense of humor is the secret ingredient to a lasting love story—even if one of you happens to have two left feet on the dance floor!
