The “collapse” of This Morning appears unavoidable after the internet exposed the identity of the person chosen to REPLACE Martin Frizell as showrunner: “This will be the last time I ever watch this show…”

ITV’s This Morning Announces New Boss as Vivek Sharma Replaces Martin Frizell

ITV’s flagship daytime show, This Morning, is set to welcome a new boss as longtime editor Martin Frizell prepares to step down.

ITV has confirmed that Vivek Sharma, who currently serves as the show’s associate editor, will take over the role in March.

A New Chapter for This Morning

Vivek Sharma, who has been part of This Morning for the past 15 months, will officially assume his position as editor on March 3.

Having worked on several high-profile ITV shows, including Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, Sharma brings extensive experience to his new leadership role.

Expressing his excitement about the promotion, Sharma shared his enthusiasm in a statement:

“Having grown up watching the show, it’s an incredible privilege and honour to take on the role of editor of This Morning.”

He acknowledged the show’s legacy, adding:

“Over the last 37 years, This Morning has become a national institution and has been responsible for some of the most memorable moments on television. It’s a cherished part of millions of people’s mornings, both on TV and social media, where someone interacts with This Morning content every second.”

Sharma also praised the talented team behind the show, stating:

“The team on and off camera are world-class, and I can’t wait to work alongside them in my new role as we shape the future of this iconic brand.”

Martin Frizell’s Emotional Farewell

The transition in leadership comes after Martin Frizell announced his plans to step down last November. Frizell, who has been at the helm of This Morning for a decade, made the decision to leave ITV in order to focus on his family. His wife, former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022, and he plans to dedicate more time to supporting her.

Reflecting on his tenure, the 65-year-old editor expressed his gratitude for his time on the show and the impact it has had on audiences:

“Next year, I’m expecting my family priorities to change, so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly, but it’s an always-on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment, and I won’t be able to do both.”

Frizell, who has played a crucial role in shaping This Morning, took pride in his contributions, saying:

“It’s been a privilege to lead truly great presenters and producers. Between us, we’ve turned out more than six thousand hours of live topical telly, that’s around 20,000 items.”

While he acknowledged the accolades the show has received, he was most proud of the real-life impact it has had on viewers:

“I’m most proud of the change we made to so many lives, even saving a fair few with our campaigns on anti-suicide, menopause awareness, testicular cancer, and practical ‘how-to’ segments. This juggernaut is the toughest test for any broadcast journalist.”

What Sharma Brings to the Role

Vivek Sharma’s appointment marks a significant step in the future direction of This Morning. With his background in breakfast and daytime television, Sharma is well-equipped to maintain the show’s reputation for engaging, informative, and entertaining content.

His work as associate editor has already allowed him to influence the show’s editorial choices, and now, as he steps into a more senior role, he will be responsible for overseeing the production, shaping storylines, and managing the evolving landscape of daytime television.

Sharma’s experience with ITV’s other morning programs suggests that he will bring a fresh perspective while ensuring continuity with the show’s legacy. His focus on digital engagement also signals that This Morning may continue expanding its presence beyond television, strengthening its interaction with audiences on social media platforms.

The Legacy of This Morning

Since its launch in 1988, This Morning has become a cornerstone of British daytime television, covering everything from hard-hitting investigative pieces to lighthearted entertainment segments. The show has seen various hosts and behind-the-scenes changes over the years, but it remains one of ITV’s most successful programs.

As Sharma takes over the reins, he faces the challenge of maintaining the show’s appeal while adapting to the shifting demands of modern audiences. His leadership will be closely watched, especially after a period of high-profile changes, including Phillip Schofield’s departure and the controversy surrounding his exit in 2023.

With Sharma at the helm, ITV is looking to ensure that This Morning continues to be a reliable and engaging presence in the lives of millions of viewers.

Looking Ahead

As March approaches, all eyes will be on This Morning to see how Sharma’s leadership will shape the show’s future. While his predecessor leaves behind a strong legacy, Sharma has the opportunity to take the program to new heights.

With a blend of experience, passion, and respect for the show’s history, Vivek Sharma is set to lead This Morning into its next era, keeping it at the heart of Britain’s morning routine.
