Melvin Odoom has made no secret of his admiration for Carol Vorderman, and now, 

the BBC Radio 1 presenter has shared his strategy to finally land a date with the former Countdown star. 

His interest in Carol became a major talking point during his time on I’m A Celebrity…

No Ghosting—Just a Delayed Response

Following speculation that Carol had been ignoring his attempts to reach out, Melvin has set the record straight. 

Speaking to The Mirror, he clarified that Carol hasn’t ghosted him—she simply hasn’t had a chance to read his message yet.

“She didn’t ghost me! I don’t know where this rumor came from—she just hasn’t read my message yet,” he explained. “Carol’s a lovely lady. She’s hardworking and busy looking after people, so she hasn’t got time to check her DMs every five seconds! But when she sees it, I’m sure she’ll read it… when she’s ready.”

Despite Carol not replying to his messages yet, Melvin remains hopeful that she will eventually get back to him. His confidence in their potential connection remains unshaken.

A Special Connection in the Jungle

While Melvin was competing on I’m A Celebrity, Carol sent him a voice message of encouragement, which was later played on I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked. In the message, she humorously referenced his now-famous pillow choice, saying, “Melvin, I’m blushing redder than that leather red dress I’m wearing on your pillowcase. But I’ll be rooting for you all the way through, and see you on the other side.”

Carol also reached out via Instagram while Melvin was in the jungle. However, because his account was being managed by friends and family at the time, he didn’t get the message firsthand.

After leaving the jungle, Melvin excitedly checked his messages and discovered one from Carol. “She sent a message saying, ‘Please give him my best. He’s done so well.’ My friends replied, saying she was lovely and even responding to their messages. I was thinking, ‘Great, I’m in!’”

Following that interaction, Melvin decided to take his shot, replying to Carol and even giving her his number. However, weeks later, she still hadn’t seen the message. “I sent her a message saying, ‘Thanks for being a great sport, but y’know, here’s my number—give me a little call.’ She’s not read it. It’s been three weeks,” he admitted.

Carol’s Unique Approach to Relationships

Carol, who has spoken openly about her unconventional love life, has made it clear that she values independence and non-traditional relationships. She has previously revealed that she has five “special friends” with whom she shares romantic connections but doesn’t engage in one-night stands.

She has emphasized that all of her partners are single and that her children, Katie, 33, and Cameron, 27, know most of them. “One’s been a friend for 11 years, one for seven. My kids know most of them,” she shared.

For Carol, this arrangement offers the perfect balance of freedom and companionship. “The goal of my life is to be happy, not to be in love,” she explained. “I just find people interesting and life interesting. You can get to a stage where you choose which bits you enjoy.”
