Lorraine Kelly sparked major tension on GMB with a controversial comment about UK leaders. What was said?

Lorraine Kelly, known for her bubbly personality and engaging style on *Good Morning Britain*,

couldn’t hide her frustration during a lively discussion on Wednesday’s edition of the show.

The 65-year-old TV presenter was chatting with hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls when the topic turned to a recent proposal that left Lorraine visibly vexed.

The proposal in question was Bristol City Council’s plan to remove funding for school crossing patrols, commonly known as “lollipop people,” as part of cost-cutting measures.

The conversation began innocently enough with Susanna and Ed previewing what was coming up on Lorraine’s ITV show.

However, the atmosphere quickly shifted when the conversation turned to the proposal affecting the beloved lollipop people in Bristol.

Lorraine’s reaction was immediate and animated as she exclaimed, “Don’t get me started!” The discussion centered around the council’s proposal to eliminate funding for these crucial safety personnel, which would save the city £314,000 annually.

The proposal has sparked outrage among many, with locals and parents expressing concern over the safety of children crossing busy roads without the presence of these crossing guards. The situation in Bristol has raised questions about how far local councils are willing to go in making financial cuts, particularly when it comes to services that many people view as vital for the community.

Lorraine Kelly, never one to shy away from expressing her opinions, voiced her strong disapproval of the decision. “For goodness sake, I understand we all need to make cutbacks, but some things are just sacred in this country, and that includes our lollipop people,” she said passionately. “It’s not just about safety; it’s simply wrong! I adore being helped across the street by a lollipop lady or man, they should be here to stay!”

Her comments reflected the sentiments of many who feel that such services are not just about traffic control, but about community care and the safety of children. Lollipop people have long been a fixture in the UK, known not only for their role in helping children safely cross roads but also for their presence in the community, creating a sense of security and familiarity for local families.

Susanna Reid, clearly aware of Lorraine’s feelings on the matter, light-heartedly remarked, “Lorraine, you’re up in arms about this!” To which Lorraine responded with a mix of disbelief and frustration, “Lollipop people, what’s going on?”

Lorraine’s impassioned remarks continued, highlighting her concern not just for the practical implications of the decision, but for the symbolic importance of lollipop people in British communities. “Some things are just sacred,” Lorraine reiterated, underscoring how vital these roles are, particularly in maintaining a sense of order and safety for young children. “They should be here to stay!” she added, her irritation growing.

Ed Balls, always quick with a quip, joined the conversation by pointing out that the lollipop people’s primary responsibility is for children’s safety. Lorraine, however, wasn’t deterred. “I know that Ed, I know, but I’m young at heart!” she replied, playfully brushing off his comment. The back-and-forth was filled with laughter, but it was clear Lorraine was genuinely frustrated by the news.

As if to change the subject and lighten the mood, Ed teasingly asked Lorraine about her stance on potholes. Lorraine’s response was swift and equally impassioned: “Potholes are outrageous, honestly, don’t get me started!” Ed, always ready to stir the pot, quipped, “I just got you started!” Lorraine laughed and replied, “You know which buttons to press! But stop this with the lollipop people.”

The lively exchange wasn’t the only highlight of the episode. *Good Morning Britain* also brought viewers some breaking news during the programme. Susanna Reid interrupted the show to announce that inflation had fallen to 2.5% in December, down from 2.6% in November, providing some much-needed positive economic news. Ed Balls quickly pointed out that while the drop in inflation was welcome, it came at a time when the pound had dropped significantly, and the cost of government borrowing had risen.

The contrast between the light-hearted moments and serious topics, like the proposed cuts to school crossing patrols, highlighted the range of issues discussed on the show, from local community concerns to national economic matters. While the discussion on Bristol’s lollipop people had a clear emotional impact on Lorraine, it also sparked broader conversations about public services and the pressures councils are facing in terms of budget cuts.

As the debate over the future of school crossing patrols in Bristol continues, it’s clear that the proposal has resonated deeply with people like Lorraine Kelly, who see the presence of lollipop people as an essential part of maintaining safety and community spirit. Lorraine’s outspoken reaction serves as a reminder of the important role these workers play in the daily lives of families across the UK.
