Amanda Holden, a long-standing judge on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT), recently opened up
about a nail-biting moment involving her co-star Simon Cowell during auditions for the new series.
Speaking on Heart Breakfast, Amanda revealed that Simon took part in a dangerous weapons stunt that left her questioning the safety protocols on set.
A Terrifying Stunt
During auditions in Blackpool, Simon Cowell, known for his daring and unpredictable nature, agreed to participate in a high-risk act.
Amanda described the moment as nerve-wracking, admitting that she feared for his safety throughout the performance.
“I’ve had BGT for days in wonderful Blackpool,” Amanda said. “But yes, I’m not going to lie, Simon Cowell decided to sort of… Well, he was involved in an act yesterday is all I’m going to say.”
The act, which involved weapons and a slippery stage, pushed the boundaries of what many would consider safe. Amanda recalled the tension, saying, “I mean, so dangerous that I looked at the producers and just thought I didn’t know how sensible it was for him to be part of it.”
Lack of Safety Measures
Amanda’s concerns extended to the apparent absence of proper safety measures. When questioned by her Heart Breakfast co-host Jason King about health and safety protocols, Amanda confirmed that none seemed to be in place for the stunt.
“You know how this world has got too much of the high-vis and health and safety? It drives me nuts, but I was like, ‘Where were they?’” she said.
Despite being instructed not to move during the stunt, Simon reportedly shifted slightly, feeling the wind from the weapon as it passed dangerously close to his head. “It was horrible to watch,” Amanda admitted.
The slippery stage added to the precarious nature of the act, with Amanda noting that the use of food in the performance created an additional hazard.
Simon’s Bravery
Despite the risks, Simon remained calm and collected. Amanda praised his bravery but was visibly shaken by the experience. She added, “Bearing all of that in mind, and obviously Simon’s bravery, he then had to go and get changed!”
Simon’s participation in the act highlights his dedication to the show’s unpredictable and thrilling nature. Over the years, Britain’s Got Talent has become known for its daring and unconventional performances, but this latest incident may set a new benchmark for danger.
Behind the Scenes of BGT
The upcoming series marks the 18th season of Britain’s Got Talent. The auditions in Blackpool saw Amanda join fellow judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli at the iconic Winter Gardens.
Reflecting on the variety of acts that auditioned, Amanda teased fans with a spoiler on her radio show. “We’ve never had so many birds on stage,” she revealed. “We had a pole-dancing seagull, a man who played rubber chickens, and someone who dedicated an entire song to Bruno while sitting on a giant rooster!”
A Legacy of Talent
Since its debut in 2007, Britain’s Got Talent has unearthed incredible talent, from Susan Boyle to Diversity. Last year’s winner, songstress Sydnie Christmas, continued the tradition of showcasing exceptional performers.
However, this year’s auditions were tinged with sadness following the tragic death of former X Factor contestant Liam Payne in October. Despite the somber start, the judges and contestants are committed to delivering an unforgettable season.
Looking Ahead
Amanda Holden’s candid recount of Simon Cowell’s perilous stunt underscores the unpredictable nature of Britain’s Got Talent. With the show set to return later this year, fans can expect a mix of awe-inspiring talent, emotional moments, and heart-stopping performances.
As the auditions continue, the judges remain dedicated to finding the next big star, even if it means facing a few nail-biting moments along the way.
